The Best Premium Forwards for FPL 2022/23

Last season saw forwards struggle to make most people’s teams by the end of the season. As a result, many managers ended the season with a single playing striker up front, which would seem unthinkable in years gone by.

We will be hoping for a change for the 22/23 season. Transfers and new arrivals could make this the year of the forwards.

Let’s look at the best forwards in FPL, all costing £9.5m or more, to find the one that will help you climb the ranks of FPL this season.

BEST FORWARDS IN FPL COSTING £9.5M OR MORE

Haaland might prove to be the best forward in FPL

Erling Haaland (Manchester City, £11.5m)

The shiny new toy at Manchester City has got a lot of managers excited about the potential points hauls he could provide us. After moving from Borussia Dortmund this summer for an initial fee of £51.1m, he is expected to immediately impact the team. He will be the focal point for a Man City attack previously known to spread the goals around its midfield.

Having spent most of last season playing without a recognised striker, Manchester City will be looking to get Haaland up to speed quickly. His record at Borussia Dortmund suggests he will be able to do so. He scored 62 goals in 67 appearances in the Bundesliga while notching 15 goals in 13 European matches. With a record like this, it is no wonder managers are excited about his prospects at one of the most attacking teams in the Premier League.

However, it is worth noting that his injury record has seen him miss extended spells throughout his still incredibly young career. This could make some managers nervous about such a young prospect making the jump to the Premier League. But with fixtures against the likes of Bournemouth (H), Newcastle (A) and Nottingham Forest (H) in their first five fixtures, FPL managers shouldn’t be too afraid to risk big money on the Norwegian striker.

Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspurs, £11.5m)

Despite starting last season with just one goal in his first fifteen games, Harry Kane still finished the season as the top-scoring forward, finishing with an impressive 192 points. With an entire pre-season under his belt this year and an influx of new signings at Spurs, Kane could be in for his biggest season yet. A huge boon will be that Conte can continue to build on the form of his attacking lineup of Kane, Son and Kulusevski.

Much has been made about Kane being a player who starts seasons slowly. But remember that in the most recent season, a transfer saga involving himself and a potential transfer to Manchester City fell through, accounting for his poor early season form. So with a clear mind and transfers being made to strengthen all across the Spurs team, Kane could see now as the perfect time to push his team further up the table.

Not only does Kane offer an attacking threat in terms of his goals and being the first choice for penalties, but he is also insanely creative, providing an impressive 9 assists over the season as well as 17 goals. With statistics like that over an entire season, it could be vital to have Harry Kane in your team.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United, £10.5m)

Despite playing in a struggling Manchester United side that failed to live up to fan expectations, Ronaldo made a triumphant return to Old Trafford. With 18 goals last season, Ronaldo provided a goal threat and focal point to the Red Devils. With a price drop from last season, he could become a more viable option, especially with tighter budgets to fit as many big names into your team.

Rumours currently circulate that Ronaldo is looking to continue his impressive goal-scoring record in the Champions League, meaning Manchester United may not remain his home for much longer. However, suppose Ronaldo does stay. In that case, we can expect him to lead a new-look team with Erik Ten Hag looking to revitalise the stalling Red Devils. As an attacking threat, Ronaldo is a player who can create chances from nothing and provided large point hauls last season on a number of occasions. Despite playing Liverpool in gameweek 3, don’t rule out Ronaldo as an option if he does remain at Manchester United.

10 ESSENTIAL FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE TIPS

Jamie Vardy (Leciester City, £9.5m)

He is a player that always goes under the radar every season due to his price point. Vardy suffered a long injury last season. Leicester tackled the Premier League and UEFA Europa Conference League with Daka (£6m) and Iheanacho (£6.5m) as their leading strikers. Despite his injuries, Vardy finished last season with an impressive 15 goals despite only making 25 appearances all season, earning him a total of 133 points.

With a fresh season ahead and no European competition to require the Leicester team to be rotated as heavily, Vardy could see himself as a differential premium choice up front. Last season he started off strongly with an impressive 7 goals in his first 8 games, but due to an injury picked up in December to his hamstring followed by an injury to his knee in March, he missed 21 games last season.

The big questions remain over his fitness and whether Vardy still has the instinct and killer shooting skills that made him a consistent goal threat over the years. With each season that passes, that question becomes harder to answer, but Vardy could still be worth a punt if you are looking to go differential in the early weeks with your premium forward pick.
