FPL Captain Call Gameweek 28: Who’s the best pick?

Blank gameweek 28 is shaping up to be another pivotal captaincy decision in the 22/23 FPL season. 

Despite scoring five goals in a mid-week European fixture, Erling Haaland is not available as a captaincy option for the weekend as he and Manchester City do not have a fixture due to a clashing FA cup match. These are my favourite weeks as it expands the choices for captaincy significantly and allows for greater analysis to be completed.

Arsenal have a prime home fixture, Chelsea host Everton and Tottenham face a relegation-threatened Southampton. Plenty of great options and great opportunities to climb the ranks!

Saka is owned by 41% of managers but may only receive a small share of the captaincy this week due to the wealth of options available.

We believe Saka is the best gameweek 28 captain as Arsenal have been prolific goalscorers at home and Crystal Palace have conceded regularly in away fixtures in recent months. 

Arsenal are averaging over 2.5 goals scored per home match this season and Saka has been involved in goals in 70% of these matches. Saka is on penalties and some corner duties which are all good signs for consistent results.

Saka has been given a 37% chance to score by the bookies and takes our top pick for blank gameweek 28. Don’t forget he is also likely to record an assist due to his playstyle in the Arsenal lineup.

Harry Kane has been very consistent this season in a turbulent season for Tottenham. Kane has 20 goals and six assists to his name across 27 matches which is unbelievable form, only overshadowed by Erling Haaland.

However, recent times has seen Tottenham falter. Only three wins in their last eight fixtures in all competitions has seen manager Antonio Conte make some negative remarks in the press regarding the performance of his team. 

Southampton currently sit bottom of the league table but have managed to concede only one goal in their last thee fixtures.

Kane has been given a 46% chance to score by the bookies and is a solid choice for captaincy this gameweek. 

Toney was a success as our Gameweek 27 captain choice and he is again a top contender for the armband. After recording his sixteenth goal and fourth assist of the season, Toney and Brentford now face Leicester at home; a favourable fixture.

Leicester have conceded in their last 11 matches in a row at an average of almost two per game. Starting Centre Back Wout Faes is suspended for the fixture. 

Brentford have only lost one home game this season and have scored just over two goals per game on average.

Toney has been given a 43% chance to score by the bookies which is the second best odds for the upcoming gameweek. 

All team-related statistics that make Saka a great captain pick also apply to Martinelli. 

Both players operate on the wings and have had prolific scoring seasons. Martinelli has five goals in his last five matches which show he is a man in form while linking up with Trossard on the left side and through the middle of the attack. 

However, Martinelli doesn’t provide the security of penalty duties as Saka does and is a bit streakier with his form this season. 

This could be the match to take advantage of his current goalscoring ways and back the Brazilian as your captain. 

Martinelli has been given a 38% chance to score by the bookies and is a good bet to record some attacking returns.
