FPL Captain Call Gameweek 7: Who’s the best pick?

Last gameweek was a great success Captain Call. Haaland, Saka and Salah all returned solid points and rewarded the managers who put faith in them.

This week presents many fixtures which could provide a large amount of goals. Tottenham v Liverpool, Wolves v Manchester City and Newcastle v Burnley should all have plenty of fireworks and most importantly, attacking returns!

Arsenal travelling to Bournemouth and Manchester United hosting Crystal Palace are potential danger games for these Big Six sides as their opposition has shown their ability this season to frustrate and also surprise with their performances.

We believe that Manchester City’s fixture against a struggling Wolves side is the best attacking fixture of the week but we will dive deeper in to that analysis below.

Whether you’re looking for a safe pick to get the season off to a good start or are looking for a differential as you reach for the number one rank, we have you sorted in the below analysis.

Top Pick

Erling Haaland, Manchester City

Manchester City are now six wins from six matches and have scored sixteen goals along the way.

City travel to Wolves who by all accounts, including those of Wolves fans themselves, are not in a good spot at the moment. Wolves only have one win this season and have conceded 12 goals. They have conceded three goals or more in half of their fixtures and it could likely be another three this weekend.

One thing to consider is that Rodri will miss the match with a red card suspension and he has been a linch pin for City this season, especially this season with Gundogan departing.

Despite this, Haaland is our tip to add to his eight goals and one assist for the season.

He has been given an impressive xx% chance to score and is once again our top captaincy choice.

Top contenders

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool

Salah continues to tick away with honest work, recording an attacking return in every premier league match this season. He has not been very explosive though with a maximum of 10 points in a gameweek.

Salah faces Tottenham in a match that could go in two directions. One being Liverpool running rampant over a single-minded Tottenham approach and score a bag of goals. The other being Tottenham using their pressing, high energy system to nullify Liverpool and record a strong win on home turf.

Tottenham could potentially be without James Maddison due to injury which could cause an upset in Tottenham’s rhythm.

Salah is likely to record a return but we will have to wait and see if he can score double digit points.

Salah has been assigned a xx% chance to score by the bookies and is also likely to provide assists for his teammates as he has so far this season.

Kieran Trippier, Newcastle

Our usual rule of thumb is to not consider defenders as captaincy options but this is an occasion where you should be considering it.

Trippier scored 18 points last week with three assists, a clean sheet and max bonus points against Sheffield United. This came as a surprise to some due to Newcastle’s poor start to the season but if you look at the strength of opposition and underlying stats of Newcastle and Trippier, you would have seen that this haul was coming.

Trippier has 26 points earned over the last two gameweeks against bottom half position and this week’s home fixture against Burnley is likely to continue the trend.

Trippier has been assigned a xx% of scoring but his assist, clean sheet and bonus point potential are his most likely route to points

Daring differential

Heung-Min Son, Tottenham

Son was almost selected as a top captaincy choice for the week but some caution has to be taken regarding a fixture against Liverpool.

Liverpool have conceded one goal in each away fixture since this season but Tottenham provide a high intensity, counter attacking opposition as they host Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Son himself has a goal or assist in three of his last four premier league appearances against Liverpool and the attacking role that Trent Alexander-Arnold plays allows for space to be exploited behind Liverpool’s high defensive line.

Son was in great form last week in the North London Derby, calmly finished two big chances to bring his goalscoring tally for the season up to five.

Son has been given a xx% chance of scoring by the bookies and is a solid differential captaincy option.
